Colonization
Upgrading to a larger ship:
You will want to upgrade to a larger transport ship as soon as possible as this allows you to carry more cargo & complete jobs more efficiently.
The best first upgrade is to a "Clipper".
You may purchase the hull from the market and will then need to purchase, and fit it, with parts. Alternatively you could use the incentive programs offered by factions such as IRON and NAPEC. All you need to do is Mail the Leader of the faction and they will get back to you ASAP.
Ships are built and modified at a station (best to choose one station to keep all your hulls). Use the "Ship Modification" screen.
A non-combat ship needs a thruster, jump drive, life support unit, and nav. computer.
A combat ship needs all of the above plus a targeting system and a weapon to fire on enemies.
You may add extras such as shields & armor. Improved (researched) versions of parts are also available on the market.
Summary for getting into a new hull: 1. Search in the hulls section of the market
2. Buy a hull close to where you are if possible (check the lightyears column); pick up the hull & take it to your ‘home’ station
3. Transfer parts to the new hull (remove them from old hull) - remember it will cost you so have spare credits or you may be stranded with no hull
